When should you visit a chronic back pain specialist?

According to the latest survey, 8 out of 10 people experience backaches at some point in their lives. Normally, the pain goes away over time. But if the pain persists, or the condition worsens, you need to visit a chronic back pain specialist.

You can experience different kinds of pain in your ack. You may feel muscle pain, joint pain, disc pain or nerve pain. Generally, back pains are not harmful. But some back pains can be quite harmful. In rare cases, you may experience back pain due to a fracture or spine cancer.

When you start experiencing back pain in the first place, you should use an over the counter pain reliever and wait for the pain to subside. You can take ibuprofen, aspirin or similar other tablets for the purpose. You can even try the pain reliever sprays and gels. You can also try a heating pad or ice pad according to the nature of your pain. Also, if you are a workaholic, you need to take ample rest to get rid of the pain. But if the pain lasts for weeks or months, you need to visit a doctor. You can no more take the pain lightly. Also look for other symptoms such as:
  • Loss of strength
  • Fever
  • Weight loss
  • Loss of bowel function
If you witness any of the symptoms along with back pain, you need to visit back pain specialist at once.
